Workplace Gossip Returns

Hi I’m workplace gossip and I have returned with more about myself and I know that my friends haven’t forgotten me. My creators love me and my victims hate me but achievers take no notice of me. If someone has vested reasons to come closer to me, such as to satisfy their own personal needs, there are many who have good reason to stay away from me. I do not send out summons. I get invitations. The choice is yours– entertainment at the cost of discrediting others or you could nurture positivity to facilitate growth and build team spirit.

To sit around conversing negatively about one another is completely non-productive. It costs the organization, when it is done on company time. You are being compensated to complete certain tasks. A negative discussion regarding your colleagues is definitely not part of your job. It could also be the basis on which the individual being maligned in this workplace gossip approaches management. This leads to more time being wasted. If you do have any free time you can always use it to contribute something constructive or positive to your company’s corporate blog.

If you must avoid workplace gossip, here are some things you could try

Always do things right: Workplace Ethics

– If your professional conduct is impeccable; gossips will have a hard time slandering you. Also, straight shooters do not have time to damage the reputation of others because they believe that gossiping is unethical and a waste of time.

Stay unaffected, Do not react

– Workplace gossip mongers propagate lies and rumors about you because you are a performer and an achiever and they believe that they will gain something by tarnishing your image. The best thing to do here is not react because a negative reaction is exactly what they are looking for.

Stay away from negative people initiating workplace gossip

– Birds of a feather flock together, goes the old adage; and being associated with these people will only attract negative vibes to your career. Lazy employees are typically the top gossips at the workplace. If you enjoy the gossip and find it amusing, the rest will enjoy gossip about you. What goes around comes around.

Confront the Gossips

– If you happen to be victimized by meaningless workplace gossip confront the source diplomatically. Nonetheless, most instigators when confronted will always deny everything.

I, workplace gossip may be the one that fosters negativity and even to an extent animosity in the workplace; blaming me alone, however, shall be a mistake. You see, I go nowhere uninvited, and all office atmospheres are not suitable for me. I need an atmosphere of grudges and hard feelings and the undercurrents of unseen personal friction; in such toxic conditions do I, workplace gossip thrive.
